State polls: Selangor needs leadership that works for the people, says Azmin

SHAH ALAM: What Selangor needs is leadership that works for the people, says Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

"Those who voted for Pakatan Harapan's war-cry against corruption back in the 15th General Election were cheated when they joined hands with the very ones they had fought against," the Perikatan Nasional chief election strategist for Selangor said at the state Perikatan election convention at the IDCC here on Saturday (June 24).

After GE15, former rivals Pakatan and Barisan Nasional joined hands with Gabungan Parti Sarawak and a few others to form the government headed by Anwar.

He also reminded state Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari that he proposed his name to the Palace to head the Selangor government in 2018, when the PKR leadership then did not.

He also urged Perikatan members to remember that when he was the Selangor mentri besar back in 2017, he had introduced schemes for the benefit of the people.

"Should Perikatan take over the Selangor government, there will be no flip-flops," said Azmin, hitting out at recent U-turns in federal government policies.

Prime Minister Anwar had previously said he does not mind flip-flopping (on policies) if it is for the benefit of the people.

At the same event, PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Idris Ahmad said that the warning not to play up 3R (race, religion and royalty) issues in the coming state elections is because the unity government had failed to get the support of the majority of Malays.

"Any country which wants political stability must get the support of the majority of its people, but Malays supported Perikatan in the last general election," he said.

The Selangor election convention is the first Perikatan election machinery launch ahead of the six pending state elections in Selangor, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Negri Sembilan and Penang.

Selangor dissolved its state assembly on June 23.
