Female police officer seen arguing in viral videos suspended, says Home Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The 35-year-old female police officer seen arguing with other police personnel and civilians in videos that have gone viral has been suspended from active duty.

"The police have a mechanism in place to deal with acts that could paint a negative perception of the police force. The officer was pulled from active duty last week," said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Saifuddin said two investigation papers (IPs) have been opened against the officer under Section 506 and Section 186 of the Penal Code.

"Her two criminal cases have been referred to the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (USJT) on June 19,” said Saifuddin.

He added that the Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance has opened six disciplinary investigation papers on the officer and said the suspension is due to the ongoing investigations and possible prosecution.

Saifuddin said this at a press conference after witnessing the handing-over ceremony for the Inspector-General of Police and Deputy IGP posts at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Thursday (June 22).

He added that once the USJT investigation is complete, the two IPs will be referred to the Attorney General's Chambers.

The female officer landed herself in hot water after a video showed her fighting with a rank-and-file policeman.

Another video has also emerged, allegedly showing her arguing with a civilian at a car park in Brickfields.

She was detained on June 18 by Gombak police and subsequently released on police bail.
