Body of newborn baby found floating near water village in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The body of a newborn baby was found floating in the Kg Tanjung Aru Lama water village near here, Saturday (June 10).

The baby with its umbilical cord still attached was discovered by villagers at around 6.30pm.

Kota Kinabalu acting OCPD Supt Kalsom Idris said villagers saw the body floating while walking by the bridge.

“We sent a team to respond and suspect that the baby might have been dumped into the sea after birth,” she said.

She said the baby whose gender has yet to be identified, has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem.

In the meantime, police are searching for the baby’s parents, said Supt Kalsom.

She said this case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth and causing the death of a child.

She urged those with information on this case to come forward and facilitate investigations.
