Zafrul will contest in Selangor state polls if Umno wants him to

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno supreme council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz will leave it to the Umno leadership to decide whether he will be contesting in the Selangor state polls.

He said the party will decide if he will be fielded in the polls.

Asked about former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin’s views that he should contest, Tengku Zafrul replied: “That’s Khairy’s personal views but for me, it all depends on the party.”

He was speaking to reporters when visiting the media centre at the Umno general assembly.

Khairy, in his podcast Keluar Sekejap, has said Tengku Zafrul, who is the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister, should contest.

Khairy is also of the opinion that Tengku Zafrul, a former banker, should be appointed as the Mentri Besar of Selangor should he win a state seat.

The sacked Umno leader pointed out that Tengku Zafrul has yet to secure victory in any election and therefore should contest and win in order for him to continue his political journey.

Redefining home cleaning with innovation and excellence

Tengku Zafrul, who is Kota Raja Umno chief, made his electoral debut in the 15th General Election but lost the contest in Kuala Selangor to the incumbent Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad of Pakatan Harapan.
