Mother and son escape blaze as fire engulfs their Taman Perling home


JOHOR BARU: A mother and son startled awake by thick smoke to find that their house was on fire.

Larkin Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Suhaimi Abdul Jamal said the fire in Taman Perling here broke out around 2.45am on Friday (June 9).

"The front part of the two-storey terrace house was ablaze when we arrived.

"A car and a motorcycle parked in the house compound were almost completely destroyed by the blaze.

"Nobody was hurt in the incident," he said, adding that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.

According to an eye witness, the victims escaped the burning house through the back door before the firemen arrived.

The witness added that the flames also spread to the two adjacent homes.

The operations ended at 3.51am.
