Foreign tourist held in connection to naked clip from Semporna hotel balcony


KOTA KINABALU: A 40-year-old foreign tourist was held by the police in connection to a clip of a naked on a hotel balcony in Semporna.

Semporna police chief Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah in a statement on Friday (June 9), said the arrest was made on Thursday (June 8) night at 9.30pm at a hotel in the district.

The police was made aware of the nine-second recording showing a man without any clothes, going out to the balcony of a hotel that was facing the road.

"His actions was recorded by civilian before the video was circulated in social media.

"The incident believed to have happened on Tuesday (June 6) at 8am.

"He is detained for investigations under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code for committing obscene act in a public place where if found guilty, is liable for jail up to three months or a fine, or both.

"The suspect is remanded for four days until June 12 for further investigations," he added.

Mohd Farhan said the police is urging the public member responsible for recording the incident to come forward and assist with the case.

"Information can be channeled to the investigating officer at 019-871 8002 or Semporna police station at 089-78 1222/ 089-782 020 or any nearest police station.

"The police is also advising tourists to obey the country's laws and respect the local culture and customs," he added.
