Saarani: Perak has no problem selling sand, stones to Penang

IPOH: Perak has no issues to sell sand and stones to Penang for its Penang South Islands (PSI) project if there is a request, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Mentri Besar said if Perak gained from the sale, and there would be new revenue coming in, that should not be a problem.

“Why not, Perak is already selling sand right now, so if there are new requests coming in with the agreed price, we are okay with it,” he told a press conference on Wednesday (June 7) after receiving an allocation from several government-linked companies for 400 sacrificial cows worth RM2.92mil.

Saarani was asked to comment on Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor's statement that Kedah would not sell sand and stones to Penang for the project.

Sanusi had said that the project was carried out merely for the benefit of the rich as houses constructed there would be sold at a higher price.

Instead, he said housing needs for the poor were a more pressing issue.
