KAJANG: Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah visited the old folks home, Rumah Seri Kenangan (RSK) Cheras, here.

The Queen arrived at the RSK Cheras at 10am on Wednesday (June 7) and was greeted by the Prime Minister’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

During the visit, Tunku Azizah also presented a cheque as a donation to the RSK Cheras and mingled with the occupants of the home.

Before leaving, Tunku Azizah also visited the RSK Cheras Rehabilitation Centre and signed the visitor’s book.

The RSK Cheras was established to provide protection, rehabilitation, development and integration to senior citizens to improve their quality of life. At present, there are 211 occupants of the RSK Cheras, 126 of whom were men.

Earlier, Nancy in her speech said the young generation should be encouraged to continue carrying out their responsibilities as children and not neglect their parents.

She said based on the ministry’s survey, some elderly Malaysians do want to continue living with their families in their golden age.

"Strong family institutions and close relationships between generations are contributors to the wellbeing of the elderly.

"In that regard, Rumah Seri Kenangan should be the last option for the elderly in this country to live their golden age,” she added.- Bernama
