No reason to delay Political Financing Bill debate, says Wan Saiful

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan (pic) has questioned the unity government’s delay in bringing the proposed Political Financing Bill to Parliament, citing bureaucracy.

The MP Tasek Gelugor said the Bill was one of the simplest to bring to the Dewan Rakyat because the related draft was already in place and the studies had been completed for years.

Wan Saiful claimed that the matter indirectly sent a signal that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had forgotten his reform agenda.

"The government said they needed time to deal with all parties because there is a new coalition now.

"But the parties that form the new coalition are existing parties, and discussions have been done with all of them.

"Why is the formation of a new coalition by the old parties used as an excuse to delay the Bill, while all engagements are done?" he said in a post on Facebook on Tuesday (June 6).

Wan Saiful also called on all parties, especially non-governmental organisations, to put more pressure on the government regarding the issue.
