Fire destroys two-storey building and over 60 buggies at KK golf club

KOTA KINABALU: More than 60 golf buggies were destroyed in a blaze at a popular country club here early Friday (June 2).

The fire also destroyed a host of expensive golf sets belonging to members as well as almost the entire two-storey building housing the items at the Sabah Golf & Country Club at Jalan Kolam in Bukit Padang here.

Lintas Fire and Rescue station chief Agustavia Joe Guasi said they were alerted to the incident at 12.28am.

She said they were informed that a building used to keep the buggies was engulfed in fire.

After the firemen reached the scene, she added, they found some 80% of the building had already been destroyed.

“The team immediately got down to work to douse the fire,” she said when contacted.

They managed to get the fire under control at 1.15am before extinguishing it at 2.30pm.

“There was no one hurt in the incident.

“We are still investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the actual losses (estimated in the millions) from the blaze,” said Guasi.
