Ahmad called on voters to support unity govt, says Mohd Puad

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan explained to the council that his calls to support the DAP was merely for the unity government.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi (pic) said the council on Friday (May 26) was satisfied with Ahmad Maslan’s clarification.

"He provided an explanation that he called on to support the unity government candidates (for the state polls). That’s it, he did not speak anything about DAP.

"We accept his explanation and we want the unity government to remain until the end of the term," he told reporters after the supreme council meeting at Menara Datuk Onn, World Trade Centre here, on Friday.

On May 19, Ahmad Maslan urged Umno voters in the six states to vote for DAP candidates during the state polls in a bid to strengthen the unity government.

He, however, did not call to vote in the name of DAP but for the sake of the current government that comprised Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional coalitions.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke on May 22, while urging the party supporters to vote for Barisan said it was logical for parties in respective coalitions to support each other in the state polls.
