Cops nab woman in Gombak over insensitive FB post


PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a suspect who uploaded a picture of a woman with a holy word in Arabic script tattooed on her body.

Police secretary Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the 46-year-old woman was arrested in Gombak on May 23.

The suspect had allegedly posted a picture via a Facebook account of a woman who had word tattooed on her body.

"We also seized a mobile phone and SIM card," she said in a statement on Wednesday (May 24).

Noorsiah said the suspect has been remanded for three days under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

"The case is being investigated by the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigations Unit under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

"We wish to remind people to refrain from spreading or posting anything on social media which touches on religious, racial and institutional sensitivities that could cause disunity and racial disharmony," she said.
