Three suspects nabbed in Taiping, over 48kg of ganja seized

IPOH: Police have arrested three people, including a woman, during multiple raids in Taiping and seized RM153,260 worth of drugs.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said a team of policemen from the Bukit Aman narcotics department acted on a tip-off and arrested the suspects, aged from 35 to 39, between 8.15pm and 11.15pm on Thursday (May 17).

"They are believed to have been distributing ganja in Kampung Paya, Kamunting.

"We found and seized a number of compressed packs of ganja weighing about 48,446g," he said in a statement on Friday (May 19).

"The drugs are estimated to be worth about RM153,260. Police also seized three vehicles and a necklace, with a total value of about RM67,670," he added.

Comm Mohd Yusri said all three individuals tested negative for drugs and also do not have any past criminal records.

"They are believed to have been distributing drugs since June 2022," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

"All three suspects have been remanded for six days until May 23," he said.
