KUALA LUMPUR: A woman lost more than RM10,000 after she was duped into paying fees for a video game console.
Sentul police chief Asst Comm Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said that the victim, a 20-year-old woman, lodged a report on May 13 over the incident.
The victim said she responded to an advertisement on TikTok selling handheld gaming consoles for just RM300.
"The complainant then communicated her interest with a 'sales agent' and was told to deposit RM250.
"She was then instructed to pay other fees such as Customs, insurance and clearance fees as well as a delivery charge.
"The payments were made in stages from May 8 to May 13, with a total of 13 transactions made to two different accounts totalling RM11,500," he said.
Investigations are underway under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
