Unity meet: Activate polls machinery now, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Election machinery for the upcoming six state elections must be mobilised immediately, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan Nasional chairman and Deputy Prime Minister said this is to ensure that the parties under the unity government will be prepared.

"We will be facing six state elections soon, so the machinery must be mobilised starting now," he told reporters after attending a closed-door meeting with 191 Umno division chiefs at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur's Dewan Tun Hussein Onn on Sunday (May 14).

Ahmad Zahid said the unity government national convention will boost the chemistry among component parties.

"They must go to the ground to meet voters from various backgrounds... especially the fence-sitters," he added.

He also advised the Umno machinery to unite and work together since the party polls were over.

The convention, themed “Madani Mewajahi Masa Depan Malaysia”, will culminate with a message from Unity Government Secretariat chairman and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, before the announcement of its declaration.
