Perikatan flexes muscles in Kedah, launches election machinery with great fanfare

ALOR SETAR: Perikatan Nasional launched its state election campaign with thousands of grassroots supporters in Kedah on Saturday (May 13).

Members of the opposition coalition had gathered to show their support in the state currently controlled by PAS.

PAS MP Nurul Amin Hamid in various posts on social media said the atmosphere was electric at the launch of the Perikatan election machinery held in Guar Chempedak, Kedah with a sea of people in attendance.

Nurul Amin, who is the Padang Terap MP, shared photos of the rally and large crowd around the area.

"Thousands had joined a motorcycle rally.

"None of them were paid to join the rally, they were not given money, fuel, or free T-shirts," he said.

While Nurul Amin received many congratulatory messages from supporters, other users questioned the party's behaviour.

A user going by the name @NapiahKecik said this is the problem with PAS and Perikatan.

"They are comparing the number of attendees. If this is the way they do things, it is clear that they have feelings of envy and jealousy.

"Even small things they refuse to lose.

"What are their plans for Padang Terap? They haven't done anything there," the person shared.

While another user who goes by the handle @BasyirahIndah suggested that the MP take photos from a different angle to show the crowd.

"Next time try taking a photo from above.

"I want to see if the crowd really fills up the entire area or if it is just a human wall," said the user.

Meanwhile, user @berkaliber posted a photo showing Anwar being greeted by local folks in Kedah.

"This is better. No need to have a motor rally," the user shared about the gathering organised by Pakatan Harapan for the Kedah Hari Raya open house by the Prime Minister.

It was reported that although the dissolution dates of the six state assemblies differ, Pakatan, its allies and the opposition have agreed to hold simultaneous state polls.

The Selangor state assembly is set to automatically dissolve on June 26 and elections must be held within 60 days, by Aug 26.

The Kelantan state assembly will automatically dissolve on June 28, Terengganu on July 1, Negri Sembilan on July 2, Kedah on July 4 and Penang on Aug 2.
