Forest fire near Pekan, nearly 30ha ablaze

KUANTAN: About 30 hectares of forest area near Ladang KMT Jalan Pekan-Nenasi, Pekan, is reported to be on fire on Saturday (May 13) due to the hot weather.

Pahang Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Dr Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa said the department was alerted to the fire at about 7.55am and 26 firefighters from the Pekan, Peramu, Nenasi and Gebeng fire and rescue stations were mobilised to the scene.

"The site of the fire is a peat land area, so when the weather is very hot and there is a source of fire, it causes the bush area to catch fire easily," he said when contacted by Bernama on Saturday.

The firefighters were assisted by 11 farm workers in the area, as well as members from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) who flew drones to monitor the location of the fire.

No casualty has been reported so far. - Bernama
