Prioritise integrity and quality service, CID officers told

KUALA LUMPUR: Integrity and quality service delivery are a must for all CID officers and personnel, says Comm Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The newly-appointed Bukit Aman CID director said action taken by those in CID should also be in line with the government’s vision and mission, especially in combating corruption and abuse of power.

“Intelligence-led policing is the way to go, especially in combating organised crime such as gangsterism, human-trafficking syndicates, online gambling, as well as gangs involved in robbery, extortion and vehicle theft.

“We must ensure we are one step ahead of such syndicates so that crime can be curbed effectively,” he said in his inaugural meeting with key CID officers in Bukit Aman on Wednesday.

Comm Ayob, who began heading the CID on April 16, held his first meeting with state CID chiefs and their deputies as well as key anti-vice, gambling and secret societies division (D7) officers at Bukit Aman in the morning.

He also chaired another meeting with district CID chiefs and other senior officers via video conferencing later the same day.

In terms of investigation, Comm Ayob said managing investigation papers (IPs) was important to ensure the quality of investigations, which would determine the type of prosecution and indictment.

“States and district CID chiefs have been instructed to increase their management and supervision of IPs” he added.

Comm Ayob also reminded CID officers, especially those in charge of IPs, to consistently update their case records.

“I find that we have been lacking in this particular area so the superiors such as senior investigating officers (SIOs) must ensure cases are updated.

“Management of cases is also integral to our success,” he said.

Comm Ayob said the department would not tolerate any wrongdoing committed by CID officers, let alone being involved in criminal activities such as working in cahoots with syndicates.

“Such bad apples will tarnish the image of the police force.

“It is time to ‘shape up’ or stern action will be taken against those who do not adhere to the rules and regulations,” he said.

He instructed all CID chiefs to increase supervision of all officers and personnel under them.

“Maintaining high integrity and ensuring excellent service are a priority,” he added.

He also reminded CID officers to stay committed to their work.

“I hope that the CID will continue to be successful in combating crime in the country,” he said.
