Factory worker charged with murder of retiree

MELAKA: A factory worker was charged with the murder of a retiree at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court here.

Syafiq Raj Kalai Selvan, 27, together with another person who has been charged, was accused of murdering Sa’adon Sahat, 57, at a back lane of shophouses in Jalan PPM 4, Plaza Pandan Malim of Melaka Tengah between 2.44am and 3.10am on Feb 27.

The charge, which was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, was read before Magistrate Nabilah Nizam yesterday.

The accused was represented by counsel R. Ryshinah.

The court fixed June 22 for mention pending necessary documents and the post-mortem report.

It was previously reported that the retiree was mowed down by a car after she reprimanded the driver and his friend for playing loud music in the vehicle.

The two men drove away but returned a short while later and continued playing the music before ramming the vehicle into the victim and dragging her for 20m.

The victim succumbed to serious injuries at Melaka Hospital on March 1.

On March 27, Indian national Logamurugan, 27, was charged with the same offence at the same court.
