JOHOR BARU: The Johor Baru Umno division elections, earlier suspended and postponed in March, will be held at 9am on May 27.
This was confirmed by Johor Umno liaison committee secretary Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman, although the venue has yet to be finalised pending a decision by division caretaker head Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
"We (Johor Umno) were given the responsibility to coordinate the matter, but the division will issue a notice within 14 days,” he said when contacted on Friday (May 5).
Abdul Halim, who is also Tebrau Umno division chief, said the election will involve all positions including the permanent chairman, division chief, deputy chief and vice chief.
On March 18, the division's election process was postponed and suspended after there were allegations that ballot papers exceeded the number of delegates present.
On April 1, party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin was reported to have said that the division's election process will be handled by the state liaison committee.
Previously, it was handled by the Umno election committee. – Bernama
