21 nabbed for illegal gambling in Kedah


ALOR SETAR: Twenty-one men have been arrested in a raid on an illegal gambling den at Kampung Hutan Kandis near here.

Kedah police chief Comm Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said the suspects, aged between 20 and 60, were arrested during a special operation conducted with the state Criminal Investigation Department's D7 unit recently.

"The men, 19 locals and two foreigners, tried to run but were all caught behind an eatery where they were gambling.

"During the raid, we also confiscated a sum of money amounting to RM17,000 as well as equipment used for the gambling activities.

"The suspects have been brought to the Kota Setar district police headquarters for further action," he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 18).

He said the case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 for gambling in a public place.
