JOHOR BARU: With Hari Raya Aidilfitri coming a week before payday, some families have opted to be prudent in their spending and only buy what they need in small amounts.

According to single mother Nurul Faizzie Ahmad Arsani, 36, she bought Raya clothes for her two children in phases besides other necessities for the upcoming celebration that is expected to fall on April 21.

“I don’t want to experience a ‘surprise’ Hari Raya like last year, so this time I have prepared everything early, although in phases.

“I’m waiting for my salary to come in on April 28, so far I only need to buy Raya biscuits,” she said, adding that she expects to spend around RM200 for it.

The clerk who lives in Kulai shared that she plans to travel to Pontian and Batu Pahat on the first and second days of Hari Raya to her parents’ and siblings’ houses.

Sharing the same plan is civil servant Mohd Haffiz Razak, 28, who said he is planning to do last-minute shopping a day before Hari Raya.

“I recently received a special Aidilfitri aid from the government worth RM700, which I have used to buy Raya clothes for me and my wife. I usually go shopping last-minute as the majority of stores will offer goods at a discounted price,” he said, adding that this would help cut his spending.

Mohd Haffiz added that he expects to spend around RM1,000 for this year’s celebration.
