Emergency lane on the NSE from Senai to Kulai to be opened to traffic over the festive season

JOHOR BARU: Road users will be allowed to use the emergency lane between Senai and Kulai along the North-South Expressway during the upcoming festive season, says Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.

The Johor works, transportation and infrastructure committee chairman said that 8km of the emergency lane would be opened for vehicle use on April 20, 21, 27 and 28 to ease the heavy traffic volume expected for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

"The stretch from KM19 to KM27 on the expressway is a traffic congestion hotspot as it is also a slope road. The lane will be opened according to standard operating procedure and safety aspects.

"A multi-agency coordinating meeting was held on April 13 involving the police, Road Transport Department, Land Public Transport Agency and they have been informed about the emergency lane use," he told a press conference at Infra Desa (Johor) at Southkey here on Sunday (April 16).

Mohamad Fazli said the Senai-Desaru Expressway (SDE) management has been told to study the possibility of also opening up its emergency lane to ease traffic flow.

"The SDE is slightly different as the traffic congestion on the highway is usually on the first day of Hari Raya, not before or after the celebration.

"However, its emergency lane is narrow so a study has to be conducted to see whether it is feasible," said the Bukit Pasir assemblyman.

He also advised road users to plan their travels according to PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS)’s proposed travel time advisory for a smoother journey this festive season.
