Weekly chicken, egg price hike complaints in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: Traders have been warned not to bump up prices of essential goods with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive period approaching, says the Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry.

Its district chief enforcement officer Azdy Zukkry John @ Azdy Zukkry Abdullah said this was after complaints were received by its Sandakan office in eastern Sabah almost on a weekly basis.

“We wish to remind traders not to sell their goods above the ceiling price.

“And sellers must also make it a point to display the prices properly for the benefit of consumers,” he told reporters yesterday.

Azdy said that they started working with the Sandakan Department of Veterinary Services yesterday at two markets in the district. This was done in response to complaints about the price increases, especially for whole chickens and eggs.
