Green-eyed monster hubby kills wife in fatal stabbing

KOTA KINABALU: A man stabbed his wife to death at a street market here on Saturday, believed to be out of jealousy.

The woman, aged 38, was helping her sister sell vegetables at the market when the suspect confronted her in Jalan Pahlawan, Kepayan here at 1.30pm.

“The man then stabbed his wife multiple times in the back before fleeing,” said acting Kota Kinabalu OCPD Supt Kalsom Idris.

She said passers-by alerted the police to the incident.

“The victim was rushed in an ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I here for treatment but she succumbed to her injuries at 2.21pm,” Supt Kalsom said.

Acting on a tip-off, she said a team from the city Criminal Investigation Department managed to locate and arrest the suspect in Jalan Kepayan at 8.30pm.

“We believe the motive was jealousy. We also seized a knife at the crime scene which we believe was used in the incident,” she added.

The suspect, a foreigner, had been remanded for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, Supt Kalsom said.
