Police task force opens seven IPs into issues touching on royalty, religion and race

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven investigation papers (IPs) involving issues pertaining to royalty, religion and race (3R) have been opened, says Deputy Comm Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin.

The Police secretary said the cases were being investigated by a 3R task force led by Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan.

"The task force was formed on March 22. Its objective is to investigate any cases that insult religion, race and the royalty.

"The task force, through the CID's Special Investigation Unit (USJT), will investigate the cases promptly to ensure the cases are referred to the Attorney General's Chamber (AGC) within seven days," she said in a statement Saturday (April 8).

DCP Noorsiah said seven IPs have been opened between March 27 and April 6.

"Four cases are connected to royalty, two on insulting religion and one involving racial elements.

"Two individuals have been detained for insulting royalty and race while another suspect is being tracked down," she said.

Of the seven IPs, three have been referred to the AGC while four others were still being investigated by the USJT, DCP Noorsiah said.

"We advise the public not to upload sensitive photos and videos that fall into the 3R category.

"Such action could lead to slander and hurting the feelings of others until it could cause chaos and trouble," she added.

The public is also reminded to use social media wisely and not touch on 3R issues to maintain the unity and harmony of people of various races and religions, she said.

"We will take action against anyone responsible for spreading fake news and seditious information over social media platforms that could cause public distress.

"Action will be taken under relevant laws including the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, Sedition Act 1948 and laws under the Penal Code," she said.
