Retired soldier claims trial to taking RM15,000 bribe while serving


KOTA KINABALU: A 62-year-old retired soldier has been charged with corruption in an alleged matter dating back nine years.

Azman Arifin, a former Army staff officer, was accused of receiving a RM15,000 cash bribe from one Kasriza Sudin to release a letter of offer to a company, SB Lui Enterprise, for a cleaning contract at the 5th Infantry Brigade in Lok Kawi here.

He is alleged to have committed the offence at the main entrance of the Suria Sabah shopping mall here in August 2014.

Azman, who was Staff Officer 2 in charge of finance and salaries at the camp, pleaded not guilty after he was charged with bribery under Section 16(a)(B) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 before Special Corruption Court judge Jason Juga here on Tuesday (April 4).

The judge allowed bail of RM10,000 with RM2,000 deposited and ordered Azman to surrender his passport to the court.

He was also ordered to report to the Sabah MACC office every two months.
