JOHOR BARU: There have been fewer instances of dengue fever cases this week compared to the previous week.
"There was a decline in news cases for (epidemiology) week 13 with 149 against 193 cases in week 12," state health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said in a statement on Tuesday (April 4).
However, there was an increase in dengue case for this year with 1,907 cumulative cases compared with 323 cases in the corresponding period in 2022.
he said of the 1,907 cases, 673 were epidemic locality cases while 1,234 were non-epidemic locality cases.
Ling said Johor Baru district recorded the highest number of cases with 111, followed by Kulai (18), and Batu Pahat with six cases.
Kluang has five, Segamat with three, Kota Tinggi, Muar and Pontian each with two cases and one case in Mersing.
"There were no cases recorded in Tangkak for epidemiology week 13," he added.
Ling said there were two deaths from week one to 13, this year compared with zero deaths in the corresponding period in 2022.
He said a total of 1,612 compound notices totalling RM763,000 were issued to premises owners found to be the breeding places for Aedes mosquitoes and 41.1% of them paid the fines.
Separately, Ling said he said Johor recorded 399,000 Covid-19 cumulative cases as of Saturday (April 1), of which 399,000 were local infections while 3,034 were imported cases.
He said there were 106 Covid-19 positive cases recorded in the past seven days where 65 patients undergoing home quarantine, 39 were hospitalised and two patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
"Statistics showed Johor did not record a drastic increase in Covid-19 cases in the recent months and hospital bed usage was still under 2.0%," said Ling.
He said the state health department also took note of the emergence of the new Subvariant XBB1 in Singapore recently which contributed to the increase in Covid-19 cases there.
He said as of Saturday (April 1), Johor recorded 340 Covid-19 Subvariant XBB cases, with 197 cases in Johor Baru, Muar (32), Kulai (28), Kluang (20), Kota Tinggi (19), Batu Pahat (18), Tangkak (14), Pontian with 11 cases and one in Segamat.
"The Covid-19 cases in the state are still under control although there are reports of the Subvariant XXB cases," said Ling.
