Partners for new Melaka town to be picked soon


MELAKA: Work on the Bandar Universiti Yayasan Melaka (BUYMe) project in Jalan Simpang Gading-Kesang Pajak here is expected to start at the end of the year.

Melaka Foundation (YM) general manager Datuk Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali said the foundation had issued a request for proposal to developers keen to be YM’s joint-venture partners to carry out the mixed development project on a 91.46ha site located next to Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka.

“Hopefully, we will be able to shortlist and select them after the Hari Raya celebrations.

“So far, a total of 21 developers have shown their interest in becoming YM’s joint-venture partners to develop BUYMe,” he told Bernama.

According to Mohd Ridhwan, five developers with a good background and track record, as well as able to give attractive offers, would be shortlisted.

The BUYMe project will be developed in two phases, with the first phase involving the development of 1,404 residential units comprising low-cost houses, low-medium houses, affordable houses, terrace houses, bungalows and condominiums in an area covering ​​36.62ha.

The second phase will involve the development of an industrial area covering 26.96ha.
