Step-sisters killed in road accident in Pontian

PONTIAN: A woman and her step-sister were killed after their motorcycle crashed into a car, whose driver was trying to overtake a lorry at KM91.6 Jalan Johor Baru-Batu Pahat, here.

Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib said the incident occurred at 1.30pm on Wednesday (March 29) when the car was heading towards Pontian from Batu Pahat.

“The car was driven by a 62-year-old man with a 54-year-old woman as the front passenger.

“The car had tried to overtake a lorry driven by a 28-year-old man but collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.

“The impact caused the rider and her pillion rider to be flung in front of the lorry,” he said in a statement here.

The rider, identified as Siti Al Adawiyah Alili, 27, and the pillion rider, Masitah Abdullah, 18, was pronounced dead at the location after suffering severe injuries to the head, body, and legs.

“The car driver and his front passenger suffered minor injuries while the lorry driver was unharmed,” he said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
