Sandakan cops investigating viral video of policeman allegedly taking bribe

KOTA KINABALU: Sandakan police are investigating a video which allegedly showed a policeman taking a bribe in the Sabah East coast district.

Sandakan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek confirmed that they had received information pertaining to the clip which has been making the rounds in social media.

“A probe is underway by the district police’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Division to ascertain whether there was any wrongdoing by the personnel member.

“If there is any evidence, the police will not hesitate to take firm action against the policeman concerned as well as the one giving the bribe,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (March 29).

As such, ACP Abdul Fuad urged those with information on the matter to get in touch with the Sandakan Integrity and Standard Compliance Division chief Asst Supt Mohammed Noor Zaid Zainuddin at 013-381 1239.

In the 15-second clip, two men in police uniform could be seen standing in front of a shop, while two other men in plainclothes stood with their backs facing them (policemen).

One of the plainclothes men could then be seen reaching for something in his sling bag before walking to one of the policemen and handing him whatever he held in his palm.

It was, however, not specified where in Sandakan the alleged incident took place.
