Jobless man pleads guilty to hurting mum, sister


MELAKA: A jobless man pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court to two counts of violence against his mother and younger sister by hurting them with a meat cleaver.

The plea of Muhammad Hidayat Abu Samad, 24, on the two counts of offences, was recorded before judge Mohd Sabri Ismail yesterday.

On the first offence, he was charged with voluntarily causing hurt to his mother Sapiah Abdul Kadir,49, with the cleaver.

The offence was committed at a house at No 1, Jalan BLI, Taman Bukit Larang Indah, here on March 10 at about 10pm.

For the second offence at the same place and time, Muhammad Hidayat had voluntarily caused hurt to his 11-year-old sister (Noor Iman Dania) with the same weapon.

He was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Section, for both the offences.

The section provides for a jail term of up to 40 years and is liable to a fine and whipping, if convicted.

The court also ordered for the defendant to undergo a mental assessment at Permai Hospital in Tampoi, Johor.

The court also fixed April 19 as the next mention date.

Muhammad Hidayat was unrepresented.
