Freak storm in Jitra sees Ramadan bazaar traders' tents blown away

ALOR SETAR: Several trees were uprooted during a freak storm at Jitra here on the first day of Ramadan (March 23).

Kubang Pasu Civil Defence Force officer Capt (PA) Mohd Adenin Suhaimi said several tents belonging to the traders selling food and beverages were also blown away during heavy rain.

"The uprooted trees have blocked the main road of Jalan Jitra-Changlun," he said in a statement.

Mohd Adenin said the department received a distress call from the public informing them about the incident that occurred at 3.05pm.

He said the Kubang Pasu disaster operation control centre staff had cleared the fallen trees and the road for traffic.

He said no casualties were reported during the storm.

"We are still assessing the incident if there are damaged houses caused by the freak storm," he said.
