Floods: Number of evacuees falls below 20,000 in Johor


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor dropped to 19,041 at 8pm from 21,127 at 8am on Saturday (March 18).

The state disaster management committee said the number of temporary relief centres (PPS) had also dropped from 83 to 75 in the same period.

"As of 8pm, there are 5,424 families housed at 75 PPS in two districts, namely Batu Pahat and Segamat.

"The majority of the victims are from Batu Pahat, with 19,039 people from 5,423 families placed at 74 PPS," it said in a statement here.

The PPS with the highest number of victims was at SK Seri Telok, Parit Yaani, with 735 people, followed by SJKC Parit Yaani (678) and SJKC Yong Peng (602).

There were three roads that were still closed to all vehicles after being damaged by the floods.

The three roads were Jalan Lingkaran Kahang Barat (J95), Jalan GSA Chamek (J99), and Jalan Ulu Tebrau (J08).
