Young entrepreneurs distribute back-to-school items to Melaka schoolkids

MELAKA: Broad smiles were seen on the faces of 500 primary schoolchildren when a few local entrepreneurs distributed RM100,000 worth of back-to-school items to them.

President of Melaka Junior Chamber International (JCI) Tonmyz Ong See Wei said members pooled their resources to help prepare these pupils for the new school year.

"We made sure the children were of all races and we plan to cover secondary students in the future," he said when met after distributing the items to the pupils and school representatives at SJK(C) Cheng here on Friday (March 17).

The event was launched by Ayer Keroh assemblyman Kerk Chee Yee.

Ong said this event was the eight time JCI edition had organised the programme, with close to 4,000 pupils from various schools provided with the items over the years.

"This year we managed to collect more funds to support the schoolchildren. We distributed the items to 86 primary schools in Melaka," he said.

Ong said JCI provided laptops, e-dictionaries, sports shoes and watches, among others.
