Cops investigating preacher for remarks against monarchy


JOHOR BARU: Police here are investigating a religious preacher for making a derogatory remark against the country’s royal institution.

Its chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said a report was lodged against the preacher on Wednesday (March 15) following a 31-second clip of a video which went viral on TikTok.

Comm Kamarul Zaman added that so far, a total of 16 police reports have been lodged against the preacher in Johor.

He said police are investigating the case under the Sedition Act, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

Comm Kamarul Zaman reminded the public to always be careful when making statements as it could cause disharmony and public disorder.
