When the term ‘move house’ is literally done over 15 days

A FARMER in Tamil Nadu spent one million rupees (RM60,000) shifting his house just to avoid it being torn down for illegal construction, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Identified only as Letchumanan, the 52-year-old man from Virudhunagar city and his wife had built a house on a piece of land that they owned, in 2013.

After a decade of paying all the taxes, fees, and utilities, the local council issued a notice to him, saying that his house was 4m over the boundary of his property.

Letchumanan, who did not want his dream home to be demolished, decided to shift his entire house using hydraulic jacks.

The move took about 15 days and ended with the house sitting on its new platform.

> Makkal Osai reported that the Education Ministry has not been able to verify the status of a new building for a Tamil school in Kuala Selangor.

The condition of the building of the school that was set up in 1932 had been deteriorating over the years.

A 1.13ha piece of land for a new building was gazetted in 2015, but the project has yet to materialise.

The school has 41 pupils now.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said she would clarify the matter once a full investigation was done.
