Search and rescue on for missing hiker in Bukit Beruang

MELAKA: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been activated to locate a missing 45-year-old hiker at the hilltop of Bukit Beruang here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the businessman had left his home on Tuesday evening (March 14) but failed to return home since then.

"Ayer Keroh police station was informed by family members of the man's disappearance.

"His car is still parked at the foothills," he said on Wednesday (March 15).

ACP Christopher said rescuers from several departments and officials from the Melaka Forestry Department are involved in the SAR.

He said 45 personnel were involved in the SAR that was resumed early Wednesday morning (March 15) following the unsuccessful attempt to detect the missing person since late Tuesday (March 14).

"We have yet to receive any clues on the missing person," he said.

A number of people have gone missing at the hilltop while on recreational activities, with a majority of them trekking from Bunga Raya to Taman Mudzaffar Shah in Bukit Beruang here.
