Three killed, child injured as vehicles collide head-on in Penampang

KOTA KINABALU: Three people died while a child escaped with light injuries after two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision at Kampung Nambazan on Jalan Papar Lama about 30km from here.

Penampang district police chief Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said that three victims aged between 17 and 58 died at the scene during the accident at about 11pm on Sunday (March 12).

He said the deaths involved the driver of a SUV as well as the driver and a passenger in a car.

A four-year-old child in the car escaped with light injuries.

DSP Mohd Haris said that initial police investigations showed that one of the vehicles had swerved into the opposite lane and crashed an oncoming vehicle.

He said that the bodies were sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here for a post-mortem exam.

He said the case was being investigated for causing death due to reckless driving under Section 41(1) of Road Transport Act.
