Egg importer refutes Azmin's direct negotiation claims, threatens to sue

PETALING JAYA: J&E Advance Tech Sdn Bhd, the company which was given permission to import eggs from India has said that it did not bag the contract via direct negotiations nor has it sold or offered to sell eggs to the government or government-linked companies.

The company said this in a statement refuting Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s remarks that it was awarded the contract to import eggs via direct negotiations.

It has also threatened to take legal action against the Bersatu leader if he does not issue a corrective statement within three days.

“J&E Advance Tech Sdn Bhd was never awarded any contract via direct negotiation with the Government of Malaysia nor did J&E Advance Tech Sdn Bhd ever sell or offer to sell the eggs imported from India to the Government or any relevant agency or government-linked company,” it said in a statement Monday (March 13) while referring to the Perikatan Nasional information chief’s statement at a ceramah on March 11.

It said Azmin’s statement was a “blatant lie” and aimed at deflecting attention away from Perikatan chief and former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s court case.

The company said it has never sold eggs to the government and only imported eggs as a “stop-gap” measure to supply local hypermarkets, supermarkets and mini-markets from December 2022 until June 2023, in view of the festive season.

It added that there was a severe shortage in the market from October 2022 that led to the company requesting permission from the government to import eggs to help resolve the issue.

The company said the approval granted by the ministry was a temporary measure, implemented as a result of the shortage.

It added that the approval was also scrutinised by both the Malaysian Veterinary Services Department and also by India’s Government’s Veterinary Health and Zoo Sanitary Certificate (Livestock Products).

Azmin had alleged at the Perikatan ceramah in Taman Melewar that the government had awarded the company the project to import eggs from India through direct negotiations.
