Senior citizen breaks leg on hike in Kluang, rescued successfully

KLUANG: A senior citizen broke her leg after falling from a hill while hiking with her husband at Gunung Lambak Kluang here on Saturday (March 11).

Kluang fire and rescue department station chief Mohd Fauzi Md Nor said the couple were going about their daily hiking routine when the disaster struck.

“The elderly couple have been hiking at the hill every day. Unfortunately, when they were walking down the hill, the 75-year-old wife fell and broke her right leg. They did not bring their phones at that time but thankfully, a passer-by found them and helped to call the fire and rescue department,” he said.

He added that eight firemen were deployed to the scene upon receiving the call at about 8.25am on Saturday (March 11).

“We managed to carry her down the hill with special rescue equipment before sending her to the hospital with an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicle to seek further treatment,” he said.

He noted that the victim’s 80-year-old husband was not injured.
