Driver dies after log-laden trailer plunged into ravine at Tambunan


A lorry driver was killed when the 10-tonne trailer laden with logs he was driving fell into a ravine at hilly Kundasang on Monday.

KOTA KINABALU: A lorry driver was killed when the 10-tonne trailer he drove plunged into a ravine at a hilly Tambunan road stretch on Monday (March 6).

The full identity of the deceased has not been ascertained as of press time, but firefighters succeeded in retrieving the body from the vehicle.

A report came in at 3.23pm informing the Fire and Rescue Department about the accident involving the trailer carrying logs along the road at Kampung Patau, Jalan Babagon section there.

The victim’s body was stuck in the driver’s seat and the Tambunan Fire and Rescue team used special rescue tools to remove his body from the vehicle.

"The victim was declared dead on site by the medical officer and the remains have been handed over to the police for further actions.

"Operation ended at 7.55pm," the Fire and Rescue spokesman added.
