Serial panty thief in PJ fined RM2,400, jailed three days after pleading guilty

PETALING JAYA: A construction labourer was fined RM2,400 by the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday (March 2) for stealing two pairs of underwear belonging to a woman from a house in Bandar Sri Damansara.

Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah imposed the sentence on Liew Chee Hoong, 45, after he pleaded guilty to stealing the two pairs of panties from a 23-year-old woman at a house in Bandar Sri Damansara at 6pm on Feb 23.

Liew was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in jail or a fine or both.

The court also ordered Liew to serve three months in jail if he failed to pay the fine.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Maryam Jamilah Md Kamal had asked for a commensurate sentence so that the accused would not repeat the offence while Liew, who was unrepresented, asked for a lighter sentence as he did not have a steady income. - Bernama
