Budget 2023: Govt to scrap flood mitigation and Jana Wibawa projects awarded through direct negotiation

KUALA LUMPUR: Flood mitigation projects worth RM15bil and Jana Wibawa projects worth RM7bil awarded through direct negotiation will be scrapped, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government is expected to save RM3bil by re-tendering these projects, adding that six flood mitigation projects will be re-tendered immediately, the latest by June 2023.

The savings from this would be used for other projects to benefit the people, said Anwar when tabling Budget 2023 in Parliament here.

To ensure flood mitigation projects achieve their objectives, people-centric and high-impact projects should be implemented through the tender process.
