Budget 2023: 20% discounts on PTPTN repayments for three months


KUALA LUMPUR: National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers will be given a 20% discount for three months starting March 1, says Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

When presenting Budget 2023 on Friday (Feb 24), the Prime Minister said a six-month deferment would be given to borrowers with monthly income of RM1,800 and below.

He added that application for this postponement can be made starting March 1.

Anwar announced a total allocation of RM15.3bil for the Higher Education Minsitry.

Among the allocations announced are:

– RM436mil to rehabilitate infrastructure and replace obsolete equipment in public higher education institutions (HEI).

– RM35mil to improve Internet connectivity in HEIs under the Malaysian Research & Education Network (Myren) programme

– RM428mil for research and development activities under the Higher Education Ministry and the Science,Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti).
