PAS does not speak for authorities, says Home Minister

SEPANG: PAS should not speak on behalf of authorities, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Speaking about the recent comments by the PAS on its recent parade in Terengganu, Saifuddin said that the police should be given space to investigate.

"PAS does not need to be the spokesperson for the police," said Saifuddin at a press conference at KLIA on Tuesday (Feb 21).

He said the police would handle the matter and issue necessary statements over its investigation.

"Please don't take on the role of a MACC or of a police spokesperson," he added.

Saifuddin was commenting on PAS information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin's comments on Monday (Feb 20) where he thanked Terengganu police chief Datuk Rohaimi Md Isa for confirming that the event was nothing more than a parade.

Khairil said the police have also confirmed that the parade was one of the events held at the Terengganu Islamic Youth Gathering (Himpit) program last Friday and Saturday.

Rohaimi Md Isa recently said that police were notified of the event but not about the group marching with fake weapons.

Photos went viral on social media of Terengganu PAS Youth members clad in medieval Islamic war costumes and armed with fake swords, spears and shields.

It was understood that the march was part of a two-day PAS youth gathering – Himpunan Pemuda Islam Terengganu (Himpit) – that began last Friday.

DCP Rohaimi said initial investigations found that the event took place at a resort in Setiu, Terengganu.
