Three sons of Undang of Rembau claim trial to hurting stepmother


REMBAU: The three sons of the Undang of Rembau were jointly charged at the Magistrate's Court here with voluntarily causing hurt to their 42-year-old stepmother.

Businessmen Datuk Kamarul Halim Muhamad Sharip, 50, Datuk Kamarul Nizam, 55 and Muhamad Fairuz, 41 claimed trial to the charge before magistrate Kartini Kasran.

They were jointly charged with causing hurt to Intan Safinaz Redzuan Ranjit around 3.30pm on Aug 23, 2022.

The alleged incident took place at the Pejabat Balai Undang Rembau in Kg Batu Rembau.

The brothers were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Act, which is punishable under Section 326A.

Offenders can be jailed up to two years upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Husni Fairos Ramly then urged the court not to allow bail but if it were to do so, she suggested an amount of RM10,000 for each of the accused.

The court then allowed bail of RM6,000 each with one surety.

Kartini also told the accused to avoid contact with the victim and other witnesses.

She then fixed March 22 for re-mention.

The brothers were represented by Datuk Hanif Hassan.

Datuk Lela Maharaja Muhamad Sharip Othman is one of the four Undang or local chieftains in Negri Sembilan.

The other three are the Undang of Sungei Ujong, Undang of Johol and Undang of Jelebu.

Among their responsibilities is the selection of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan.
