Sibu scrap metal dealer charged with RM400,000 fraud


SIBU: A scrap metal dealer accused of fraudulently concealing funds belonging to another person, to the tune of RM400,000 has claimed trial to the charge.

Chong Wai Hoong, 40, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here on Tuesday (Feb 14) and was released on RM20,000 bail with two sureties.

He was charged under Section 424 of the Penal Code for fraudulently concealing RM400,000 belonging to one Chieng Mee Ngiik, 51, at a shop in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here on Nov 17.

The section provides for imprisonment of up to five years or a fine or both upon conviction.

Magistrate Oon Kork Chern also ordered Chong's passport to be impounded until disposal of the case.

The accused was also ordered to report to the investigating officer on the 15th of every month until the case is over.

Pre-trial management has been fixed for April 10.
