Floods: Number of evacuees in Johor remains at 163 as of 8am Feb 7


JOHOR BARU: There is no change in the number of flood victims currently placed at four temporary relief centres in three districts in Johor.

According to the state disaster management committee, the number of evacuees in Batu Pahat, Segamat and Mersing remained at 163 victims as of 8am on Tuesday (Feb 7).

"Batu Pahat has the highest number of evacuees at 130 people from eight villages currently seeking shelter at SK Sri Sejati and Dewan Orang Ramai Sri Medan.

"This is followed by Segamat with 26 villagers from Kampung Seberang Batu Badak relocated to Balairaya Kampung Seberang Batu Badak," it said in a statement.

The committee added that Mersing had seven victims from Kampung Jemari seeking shelter at Sekolah Agama Pengkalan Batu.

It reminded the public to remain alert as the Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast continuous rain in Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi later in the day.
