MACC arrests Batu Pahat school staff member over RM100,000 false claims

JOHOR BARU: A 40-year-old staff member at a Batu Pahat school has been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly submitting over RM100,000 in false claims.

It was learnt that the suspect was detained after showing up at the Johor Baru MACC office to have his statement recorded at around 5pm on Monday (Feb 6).

The suspect was said to have committed the offence in 2021.

"He allegedly prepared false documents and submitted claims to the school for the printing of educational modules.

"He claimed the modules were to be distributed to the students but it did not happen," said a MACC source.

Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act.

A remand order for the suspect is expected to be obtained from the Johor Baru Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Feb 7).
